VistaPerfection StartButton by kayeirene VistaPerfection StartButton by kayeirene
VistaPerfection StartButton

This application is used for VistaPerfection Series Msstyles or any Vista Msstyles with cut start orb. This simple application will make the cut off start orb to be complete see the image preview above. This application is standalone and can be moved anywhere in the desktop and it can also be run automatically at start up.

ENJOY! :)

For some reason I cannot get it to go directly above it. When I keep trying to move it above it so it will look like it should it will just keep snapping to either the left of the button or to the right.

Nice orb!! I have been trying out severals now but almost all were rubbish... blajano's didn't work together with VIStart (the start menu) but this one does. however ... that "always on top" doesn't work with me. If i open a maximized window it is cut off again and it isn't on top of the startmenu either! please help, thanks...

The only problem i ahve with always on top is that it shows even on the screensavers, full screen modes for video and more it looks kind of weird.

Vista unperfection start button. Does not stay on top of taskbar. Blazero start orb works better that this as well as Vista Start 1.3. Back to the drawing board.

Nope. Found out that it is due to my version of DX. Time to shell out some $?

I have been doing a little research on DesktopX and made my own orb such as above.

Even if you set the Z-Order to 'Always on top' the orb doesn't stay on top of the taskbar anyway. Maybe from design or bug, I don't know but that kind of throws my request #1 into the bin.

If it ever gets fixed, the script sub for calling the menu is:
Sub Object_OnStateChange(state)
If state = "Command executed" Then
On Error Resume Next
Set objShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
objShell.SendKeys "^{ESC}" 'this is "CTRL"+"ESC"
Set objShell = nothing
End If
End Sub

Someone will have to go further and figure out how to set up the right click too. Kind of moot now though.

I still like the idea of not being able to easily (accidentally) move the widget. You can set this as Movement - Locked. This allows you to still move the orb while holding down the CTRL button.

I downloaded the orb png that is floating around the net and it displays as yours does. Blajano seems to have cleaned up the top edge a bit.

Even if you know all this, it may help the next guy.

I wrote too quickly. 'Menu' should be 'taskbar' at the side and two level taskbar.

Kayeirene, thank you for this, it adds a nice touch to my V. theme.
I thought that a couple of changes would make it perfect (for me anyway).

1. Have the button actually open the menu instead of fill in behind. This is for people who put the menu at the side of the screen. Of course they will have to set it to 'Always on Top'. This also improves the look for the people who use a 2 level menu as well. I really like the fact that you use a full orb; it would look nice here.

2. Now that we place it 'Always on Top', how about requiring the user to hold down an alt or ctrl key to move the orb. Not just the mouse or arrow keys. Within 2 minutes my 4 year old dragged the orb into the weeds with it 'Always on Top'.

3. The orb (especially at the top) is a little rough. Maybe the image file could be cleaned up. Like Saiph85 said, blajano's version shows a little better. I still prefer your version, (that is why I am here), because you chose to add in the full orb with shading all around.

Sorry if this comes off as pretentious. I just really like the look of that little orb. Thanks.

This is truly perfection, except for the little black bar after you click it.

Hello Kaye... Long time no talk, appear on WLM ASAP theme fairy! ;)

Ehhh... this button have a bug. When I click on the taskbar it disappears from the front of it and the cutoff button stays visible, even when it's set to stay in top.

Best wishes and Happy New Year for you and your family. :)

I noticed another bug:

Sometimes the button seem to not respond when you click it to open the start menu. I'd be interested to find out if any other users had this specific problem.

actually this start button is only intended to "fill" the cut off start button of my msstyles theme it doesn't have any windows explorer codes or events... so by pressing it along will not activate anything it is designed at the back of the start button of my vista msstyles just like some vista start buttons out there

Look closely at the top of the orb in your preview pic above. Now have a look at blajano's version:

You should see the difference in smoothness.

Great work. But why does the top of the orb look so rough and jagged?

An improvement to this would even make it better than Blaero's.
